1. Standing Check and Hip Height Adjustment
Stand and check that the bottom of the foot is floating above brace. Make additional adjustments of the base height if needed.
Check that both hips are level.
If adjustment is needed, unfasten the upper two thigh straps on the back of the thigh.
If the hip on the brace side is too high increase the bend in the knees, which will drop the hip. If the hip is too low straighten the knees to raise the hip.
Once hip height is adjusted retighten the two straps tight against the back of the leg.
You may need to retighten the straps on the topside of the thigh.
Check the hip align and repeat the process if necessary.
Quick Tips
  • Ensure the foot is floating above the brace.
  • Ensuring the hips are level will make it much easier to walk with confidence and stability.
  • If lowering the hip, the motion is to act as if you were bending the knees to sit down in a chair. This will drop the hip height. It may be helpful to hold onto something like the arms of a chair or table to give you stability as you sit back.
2. First Steps
Stand up straight then sit back and sit down on the brace. Feel that the brace supports your weight on the back of the thigh.
In the beginning it is easiest to take short steps with the brace landing 5” to 6” forward of the opposite foot and then gradually step all the through.
As you are walking, assess if your hips are level. If it is difficult to swing the brace through without dragging the brace on the ground you may need to lower the hip on the brace side as described earlier.
Quick Tips
  • Crutches, a cane or holding the arm of a friend can give you some extra stability when taking your first steps.
  • Stand Upright and sit back into the brace. Make sure you can feel your weight transferring to the back of the thigh.
  • Take short steps with the brace landing 5” to 6” in front of the opposite foot.
